Living as An Explorer
In my 10+ years living abroad, I have dedicated myself not only to refining my teaching craft but also to immersing myself in the cultures and environments surrounding me and my students. As a result, I am fluent in multiple languages (Spanish, Portuguese), travel extensively in every country I have lived, and take advantage of my passion for learning to connect with my students and their respective backgrounds.
Teaching as a Passion and an Art
I have been a performer my entire life, spending a good deal of my childhood (and adulthood) on the stage, from choir performances, to dance recitals, to playing piano duets at talent shows. My appreciation for and experience with the performing arts transfer to my classroom both directly, through my work incorporating music and theater into my lessons to enhance students’ analysis of literature, and indirectly, in helping me maintain a dynamic and enthusiastic teaching style. This passion also allows me to support my school and connect with my students, and I have sponsored school performance groups, performed for the student body at pep rallies, and performed side-by-side with students in school musicals.
Lifetime love of Literature
I am wildly in love with literature and have been a bookworm my entire life. I believe that, through reading, we become the most empathetic, curious, and insightful versions of ourselves, and that through writing, we are able to share those selves with others. I bring my enthusiasm for reading to my classes, but it is also important to me that this is a practice I maintain in my own life and encourage students to have outside of simply their academic careers. I have helped students create and run school-wide book clubs and literary magazines, spent countless hours conferencing with students over drafts of their original novels, brought award-winning authors to my school to discuss their craft with the students, and ensure that I am always adding new titles to my personal bookshelf.
